Anthonys story

Sports have always been a big part of my life. I started playing hockey when I was just four years old and during my teens I started playing golf in the summers.

My career took off quickly and as a junior I played both Junior A hockey in Canada and also had the opportunity to play for Canada’s Junior A national team. After that I got to play college hockey in the USA. During these years I really got to see and experience what a positive impact a coach with good leadership can have on one’s life but I have also seen how destructive leadership can make one feel as an individual. This leadership quickly made me identify with performances on the field and made me feel worse off the field. It was in these tougher times that I discovered how important my faith really was to me and I decided to take it more seriously and attended a Bible school that taught me a lot about how I can be trained in all three dimensions, physically, mentally and in the heart and in this way continue to be an athlete but not put my identity in the performance.

After that, I moved to Sweden to play hockey professionally and realized how I could apply these tools both on and off the ice. In Sweden, I got to experience the European sports culture, marry my wife Julia and I got in touch with Sport for Life for the first time when I was a leader at their hockey camp in Skillingaryd.

After seeing their work and how it affected the young people but also myself, a desire was awakened in my heart to be a full-time part of the vision to transform the world of sports and especially the world of hockey and to be a positive force within the sports and hockey culture.

My passion and my heart is to use my experiences from my hockey career to be able to contribute to athletes and coaches through hockey camps, summer training programs and coaching workshops to bring about a healthier culture and environment in the sports world.

I believe that by building relationships, speaking self-confidence, coaching through 3D coaching and helping athletes and coaches grow and develop in all three dimensions, physically, mentally and in the heart, we will see a positive change in the sport but also in the hockey world.
